Meraux Foundation Announces Blaise Pezold Selected for National Conservation Leadership Program

The Meraux Foundation announced today that Blaise Pezold has been selected to participate in the 2026 Next Generation Leadership Institute (NGLI), a nationally recognized leadership development program hosted by the National Conservation Foundation (NCF).

Pezold, who represents Louisiana in the NACD South Central Region as the Chairman of the Crescent Soil & Water Conservation District, is one of eight conservation leaders chosen nationwide for the yearlong program. The competitive selection recognizes emerging leaders who demonstrate a strong commitment to conservation, natural resource management, and community-driven solutions.

Rita Gue, president of the Meraux Foundation, said, “Blaise’s selection reflects both his dedication to conservation and the importance of investing in people who are prepared to lead thoughtfully, collaboratively, and with a long-term vision for our environment.”

Launched in 2019, the Next Generation Leadership Institute provides advanced training in advocacy, public policy, communications, leadership development, media engagement, conflict management, and team building. Participants also engage in national networking opportunities designed to strengthen locally led conservation efforts across the country.

Brent Van Dyke, chair of the National Conservation Foundation, said, “Each year, we see participants grow into leaders who not only strengthen their local districts but also contribute to national conversations about resource stewardship.”

Pezold said he is honored to be selected and looks forward to representing Louisiana through the program.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to learn from conservation leaders across the country and to bring those lessons back home,” Pezold said. “This program will strengthen my ability to advocate for locally led conservation and to support the long-term health of our communities and natural resources.”

The Meraux Foundation prioritizes the protection, restoration, and resilience of Louisiana’s coast, especially in St. Bernard Parish, where land loss poses urgent environmental, cultural, and economic threats. The Foundation supports a wide range of initiatives, managed by Pezold, that preserve wetlands, restore habitat, build coastal resilience, and engage residents and students in environmental stewardship.
