Delegation of La. educators returns from Rivers Institute in Minnesota A delegation of educators and environmentalists headed by the Arlene and Joseph Meraux Charitable Foundation returned to St. Bernard Parish yesterday after attending the Waters to the Sea Rivers Institute at the source of the Mississippi River in Minnesota.

Louisiana loses a football-sized amount of its wetlands each hour. This rate of erosion will only increase, especially in the wake of the devastating hurricanes and natural disasters that we have experienced more frequently in recent years.

The Meraux Foundation unveiled the Arlene Meraux River Observation Center (AMROC) this summer. The four-story educational facility features a classroom, community meeting spaces, and a fifth-floor observation deck overlooking the Mighty Mississippi.

The Meraux Foundation awarded scholarships to 58 St. Bernard Parish high school seniors as part of its annual scholarship program. To date, the Foundation has granted more than 550 scholarships valued at some $1.5 million.

AgMagic is a free, interactive, educational experience for young children and their families. Hosted in 2014 at the Meraux Foundation’s Docville Farm, more than 2,500 kids learned about the important connection among agriculture, the environment, and their lives.

The Meraux Foundation, through Meraux Land Development LLC, announced today that it has donated a plot of land at 4700 Paris Road in Chalmette to the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office for the site of a new sub-station.

The Meraux Foundation announced today that it has entered into a charitable lease with the Louisiana Living History Foundation, which will pay $1 per year for a 25 acre stretch of land near the Chalmette National Battlefield.

The first pilings were driven today as the Meraux Foundation began work on a new addition to Docville.
