Things were certainly buzzing at the Rotary Club’s annual St. Bernard Community Spelling Bee held at Chalmette High.
Meraux Foundation Donates Land for New School
The Arlene and Joseph Meraux Charitable Foundation donated land on Paris Road at the entrance to St. Bernard Parish to the St. Bernard Parish Public School Board to develop a new elementary school, which will be named the Arlene Meraux Elementary School. The new school is projected to open in August 2017 and is a response to the growing number of school-age children in the parish.
Boo at the Barn a blast thanks to Chalmette Key Club
The inaugural Boo at the Barn event was a spooktacular success as nearly 2,000 people took part in this Halloween celebration. Held at the Docville Farm, Boo at the Barn was a collaborative community project presented by the Chalmette High School Key Club, a youth division of Kiwanis International.

On Saturday, the Arlene and Joseph Meraux Charitable Foundation dedicated the Dave Thompson Event Barn in honor of Mr. Thompson’s 65 years of service to the Meraux family and the community. The emotional ceremony gathered Mr. Thompson, now 83, his wife of 47 years, Rose, and dozens of family and friends for a heartfelt celebration and tribute to the beloved man.

The Arlene and Joseph Meraux Charitable Foundation has given the LSU AgCenter Livestock Show $150,000 to establish an endowment for Supreme Champion Animals in all six breeding species – beef cattle, dairy, poultry, sheep, goats and swine. This represents the single largest donation in the 80-year history of the show

Docville’s Crawfish Pond Featured
Docville Farm’s crawfish pond is featured in the Fall issue of Louisiana Sea Grant’s Coastal Clips. The crawfish pond was created for AgMagic by the River. This year’s guided field trips will be held May 13 through 15 and it is open to the public on May 16.
